History of HosurHosur is about 800 year old town. Hosur was initially a part of Mysore kingdom. But in 1799, when Tipu Sultan was defeated in the third Anglo- Mysore war, he gave the southern part of Mysore to the British government which included Hosur. Then, Hosur was made as a capital of Salem District by British Government. In 1992, Hosur was upgraded to Second Grade Municipality and in 1998, it was upgraded to Selection Grade Municipality. With the development of SIPCOT, Hosur became an industrial town.
Geography of HosurThe town of Hosur has tropical savanna climate with wet and dry seasons. It is located at an elevation of 878 meter above the sea level, and due to high elevation you can experience moderate climate in the town throughout the year. The minimum temperature is 17° C in winter and maximum temperature in summer is 37°C. The coolest months are October to February, while summer remains in the town from March to May, and April is the hottest month. The town receives average rainfall of 84 cm.

There is a plan going on for the development of the Information Technology sector as Special Economic Zone (SEZ) at Vishwanathapuram in the town of Hosur. Agriculture is also one of the sources of income in the town. The land of the town is very fertile and variety of fruits and vegetables are cultivated here.
Transportation of HosurHosur has a wonderful connectivity with nearby cities and town by trains and buses. Frequent government and private buses ply through the town of Hosur. Most of the TNSTC and KSRTC buses ply to the town of Hosur from rest of the South India. Hosur has one railway station where trains from Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh pass through.
